Overview

Energy Talk: Youth for Just Transition convened a high-level gathering of youth leaders, climate advocates, and energy experts to explore strategies for a fair and sustainable energy transition in Bangladesh. The event served as a dynamic platform to elevate youth voices in shaping national discourse around renewable energy, environmental justice, and equitable climate action.

Opening & Key Remarks

The event commenced with reflection remarks from Mir Mohammad Ali, Chair of YOUCAN, and Yudhishtir Chandra Biswas, Executive Director of YOUCAN. Both emphasized the transformative role of youth in accelerating a just energy transition, highlighting the need for climate equity, community-centered innovation, and intergenerational collaboration.

Technical & Policy Dialogues

Two expert-led sessions deepened the discussion on energy transformation:

Mr. Shahriar Ahmed Chowdhury presented on “Renewable Energy: Technology, Challenges, and Opportunities,” examining the technical potential of clean energy in Bangladesh and the infrastructural hurdles to overcome.
Mr. Shafiqul Alam spoke on “Sustainable Energy Transition in Bangladesh – Opportunities and Challenges,” offering policy-level insights and laying out the roadmap for a realistic, scalable energy transition aligned with global climate goals.

Special Address

A powerful address was delivered by Mr. Sharif Jamil, Member Secretary of DHORA and Coordinator of Waterkeepers Bangladesh. He highlighted the urgency of embedding environmental justice in the energy agenda and stressed the importance of protecting river ecosystems and mobilizing grassroots communities for long-term sustainability.
