On this International Youth Day 2025, we hosted the youth-led roundtable “Youth Voices, Forgotten Frontlines: Climate-Induced Displacement and Children’s Rights” at Save the Children in Bangladesh.
The roundtable was moderated by Yudhishtir Chandra Biswas, Founder & Executive Director of YOUCAN, with valuable contributions from Valentina Spinedi, Climate Specialist, UNICEF Bangladesh; Mr. Muhammad Mehedi Ahsan — Assistant Professor (Adjunct), DESM, IUB and General Secretary, Bangladesh Institute of Planners – BIP; and Md. Abdul Kaium Joy, Coordinator, National Alliance on Cities for Children and Youth. The event brought together youth representatives from 22 different organizations.
The discussion:
✅ Amplified voices of youth from climate-affected and displaced communities
✅ Highlighted the urgent need to integrate children’s rights into climate policies
✅ Called for stronger protection measures for displaced children
✅ Addressed the critical evidence gap regarding climate-displaced children forced to live in urban slums and informal settlements
✅ Inspired youth-led climate justice action
Next steps: Youth will actively work to influence political parties to incorporate these issues into their climate and social policies.
Organized by 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐍𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 – 𝐘𝐎𝐔𝐂𝐀𝐍 in partnership with the National Alliance on Cities for Children and Youth and Shocheton Foundation – SF.
