YFN Adda on Women’s Safety and Autonomy

📍 YFN Adda on Women’s Safety and Autonomy
Date: 28 July 2025 | Venue: Global Platform Bangladesh

The Young Climate Action Network (YOUCAN), in collaboration with the Young Feminist Network and Global Platform Bangladesh, successfully convened a YFN Adda titled:
নারীর নিরাপত্তা মানেই কি পুরুষ-নির্ভরতা? আত্মনির্ভরতা বনাম সমাজের দৃষ্টিভঙ্গি
(Is Women’s Safety Equal to Male Dependence? Self-Reliance vs. Social Perception)

The adda created a reflective space to explore how societal attitudes, gendered expectations, and structural barriers impact women’s safety and autonomy. The conversation examined how institutions and individuals alike must move beyond patriarchal assumptions to ensure meaningful gender justice.

The session was facilitated by All Hafesh Soumik, Deputy Executive Director of YOUCAN, and featured a special address from YOUCAN’s Executive Director, who stated:
“YOUCAN strongly upholds sensitivity towards women, and it is imperative that both YOUCAN and all other organizations commit to ensuring women’s safety and continue working from their own spaces to achieve this goal.”

We were honored to host members of the Youth and Just Society Team of ActionAid Bangladesh, whose contributions enriched the dialogue with valuable perspectives on intersectionality, feminist organizing, and accountability.

Over 30 youth leaders from diverse organizations and networks across the country actively participated in the discussion, sharing experiences and advocating for inclusive, transformative change.

This adda reaffirms YOUCAN’s ongoing commitment to youth-led, gender-just advocacy and the power of collective reflection in shaping safer, equitable societies.
