YOUCAN Global has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with The Earth Society to advance youth-led action on renewable energy and clean air in Bangladesh. The agreement was signed by Yudhishtir Chandra Biswas, Founder and Executive Director of YOUCAN Global, and Anwar Hossain, Executive Director of The Earth Society.
The partnership is established under the “Clean Air and Renewable Energy” initiative, implemented as part of The Earth Society’s flagship youth platform “Youth for CARE.” It reflects a shared commitment to accelerating sustainable energy solutions through youth engagement, policy advocacy, and community-based action.
Context
Bangladesh is facing increasing pressure from rising energy demand and worsening environmental conditions. Air pollution continues to pose serious risks to public health, while dependence on fossil fuels constrains long-term sustainability.
The transition to renewable energy is therefore both a necessity and an opportunity. It offers a pathway to cleaner environments, stronger economic resilience, and improved quality of life. In this context, youth engagement is critical. Young people have the capacity to influence behaviour, contribute to innovation, and shape policy discourse, yet their role in energy transition processes remains underutilised.
This partnership seeks to address that gap by positioning youth at the centre of renewable energy action.
Scope of Collaboration
The MoU establishes a structured framework for collaboration between YOUCAN Global and The Earth Society. The partnership focuses on strengthening renewable energy awareness, building youth capacity, and facilitating dialogue between communities and decision-makers.
Key areas of collaboration include capacity-building initiatives on renewable energy and air pollution, public awareness campaigns, policy dialogues at local and national levels, and strategic media engagement to strengthen climate communication. The collaboration also includes defined coordination, monitoring, and reporting mechanisms to ensure accountability and effective implementation.
Programme Implementation
Under the agreement, YOUCAN Global will implement a programme from April to December 2026. The programme will deliver targeted training for youth on renewable energy systems and sustainable practices, alongside public engagement initiatives designed to translate knowledge into action.
District-level dialogues will provide platforms for youth to engage directly with policymakers and stakeholders. In parallel, media and advocacy efforts will support the promotion of evidence-based renewable energy solutions and strengthen national discourse.
The programme will conclude with a national-level event to present outcomes, share lessons, and highlight youth-led contributions to Bangladesh’s energy transition.
Significance
This collaboration represents a strategic step toward integrating youth leadership into Bangladesh’s renewable energy agenda. By linking grassroots engagement with policy processes, it aims to support a more inclusive and effective transition to clean energy.
The partnership also contributes to broader efforts to address air pollution, advance sustainable development, and strengthen climate governance.
